There are numerous women that engage in a variety of fitness activities or body building competitions that are seeing breast augmentation. With the decrease in body mass and body fat, one of the down sides to a high fitness routine is the loss of breast tissue. Many of these highly trained athletes are seeking to have a girlish figure while still remaining lean. Breast augmentation is a great way to restore fullness and figure while still remaining lean and fit!

Here are a few questions our fitness guru patients ask most commonly:

1. Is the implant better placed above or below the muscle? This really depends on your anatomy. Some patients benefit from the implant being placed in a sub-pectoral position and others a sub-glandular position.

2. Is silicone or saline better for me since I work out so much? Both are excellent implants ,it really depends on how much breast tissue you have. We precaution our patients that are very lean about the rippling that can occur in the saline implant. The silicone gel does great in both subpec or sub-gland position.

3. Will I be able to do the same exercises that I use to? We suggest that in order for you to maintain the best results you limit your direct chest work outs like bench press or flys.

4. How long until I will be able to go back to the gym after surgery? The first two weeks after surgery are your most substantial in recovery. At three weeks you are at 50%; light lifting, working out legs, brisk walking. At four weeks most patients are good to go!

5. Can I still run with implants? Yes you can still run after your recovery period, it may feel a little different, but with good support you should be good to go!

What stops a lot people from achieving their dream of beautiful breast is the fear of limitations after surgery and the length of time it takes to recover. Everyone has a lot going on in their lives from outings with friends to school, weddings, family functions, or everyday duties with children.

Dr.Ciaravino has developed a surgical technique that allows our patients to get back to their everyday lives as quickly as possible with beautiful new breasts! For a standard breast augmentation with saline or silicone gel implants, limitations include no working-out for the first two weeks after surgery. At the three week mark you will be at 50% where you can begin doing leg work-outs and brisk walking. At four weeks our patients are good to go back to their everyday activities!

A lot of people want to know “well, When Can I go back to work?” This question varies from patient to patient depending on their career. For the majority of our patents, they have their surgery on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, take the weekend off to recover and then they are usually back to work by the following Monday or Tuesday! “WOW”… you say … “How is that possible?” Through Dr. Ciaravino’s surgical technique there is very little trauma to the breast tissue along with a combination of post-operative instructions that allow for a speedy recovery! So don’t let more time go by! You can have the breasts you have always wanted in no time!

Many women contemplate breast surgery over their life time. Some women want fuller breasts, others want a mommy makeover. What is holding you back from having a new YOU in 2012?

What holds many women back from a breast surgery is fear. Common fears include:

-pain after surgery and recovery

-having anesthesia

-risks involved with surgery

-what the new look will be

All of these fears can be eliminated if you select an excellent doctor! This means going to a plastic surgeon that is board certified and has a lot of experience with breast surgery, has a board-certified anesthesiologist, a friendly staff, numerous before and after photos, gives your personal attention and care, listens to your surgery goals, and operates at a certified facility. Our practice has all of these, and we are here to make your plastic surgery a wonderful experience.

Make 2012 the year to have the body you have always wanted and be the best that you can be!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Many patients who come in for breast augmentation request a natural look and feel. We want to give you some pointers on how to achieve the most natural looking breasts with breast augmentation.

First and foremost it is important not to choose implants that are too large for your frame. Choosing implants that are too large for your anatomy can not only make your breasts look artificial but can increase the risk of complications.

Silicone implants are best for a more natural look and feel. The soft cohesive memory gel feels like a natural breast and is less distinguishable among actual breast tissue. Silicone implants are the way to go for the most natural look.

Your surgeon can help determine what implant location, above or below the muscle, will give you the most natural result. This varies from case to case

An incision site that is visible can be a dead giveaway of breast augmentation. It is important that the incisions are well hidden. By going through the natural fold of the breast, the incision is mostly hidden and usually fades very well over years’ time. In some patients, hiding the incision at the edge of the areola may work best.

Overall, if you are looking for a very natural breast augmentation remember to discuss with your doctor silicone gel implants, a good size for your anatomy, and the incision site and length.

TITLE: Tummy Tuck

What to Consider:
Abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, is a popular procedure typically performed after a woman has a baby or after weight loss. A tummy tuck is for those areas of excess skin and fat that you just cannot get rid of. Before considering a tummy tuck we want you to know some basic facts about the overall procedure:
-An abdominoplasty should not be considered a weight loss procedure. It is important for you to be at your ideal body weight before having a tummy tuck so you can achieve the best results. We want your body to be in the healthiest state possible to prepare you for surgery and for the healing process.
-After surgery most of our patients take from about one week to two weeks off of work. You can expect soreness and normal post-surgical limitations such as minimal physical activity.
-Swelling after surgery is expected. You will not be able to squeeze into your old jeans again right after surgery. You will be in a compression garment for about 6 weeks which will allow swelling to go down and your skin to shrink back.
-If you smoke cigarettes you should NOT consider a tummy tuck. Smoking cigarettes constricts your blood flow which directly effects the healing process; resulting in the possibility of sustaining an open wound.
Please be advised that each individual case is different and not every person is a candidate for abdominoplasty.

One of the best ways to delay aging is through injectables. BOTOX has been the “go to” injectable to help out with those fine lines and wrinkles. It is a proactive and preventative way to minimize lines and give your face a youthful look. The development of wrinkles begins in your early 30s. BOTOX has become common practice starting in your 30s to inhibit the progression of wrinkles. By starting early, you are less likely to develop wrinkles as you age. Because BOTOX is temporary, it is important to keep up with your injections on a regular basis. We find that our patients see the best result when they come every three months for treatment. We suggest that by pairing Retin-A with BOTOX, you will notice fewer wrinkles and less discoloration.

With almost 290,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed this year, it is crucial that you are able to separate myths from facts about breast cancer prevention. Here at Dr. Ciaravino’s office, we want you to now the facts…

1. ALL WOMEN should do monthly self-breast exams. Having a false since of security is the worst mindset. Everyone is susceptible to getting breast cancer even if breast cancer does not run in your family.

2.Most women should start screening for breast cancer through mammograms at age 40. Recommendations may vary depending on the individuals’ risk factors. The dose of radiation that you are exposed to is minimal and risks are extremely low.

3. Women who have breast implants should partake in the same breast cancer screenings as those who don’t have implants. A slight difference in screening techniques is used with patients who have implants so make sure the facility and radiologist performing your mammogram is familar with breast implants.

4. Breast pain is rarely a symptom of breast cancer. Pain is more likely due to hormones or cyclic tenderness due to the menstrual cycle.

Take the time to educate your mom, sister, or daughter about breast cancer. If each of us take preventative measures to prevent breast cancer less and less families will be affected.
