Summer is here and we know you are looking forward to showing off your new look by the pool or at the beach! You can resume tanning three weeks after surgery. Just make sure that you keep your incision site well hidden from the sun (this means tanning beds as well). The scars exposure to the sun or UV radiation can enhance the appearance of the scar by making it darker. It is best while in the sun to keep it covered. When you are lying in the tanning bed you can put a towel over the incision site or cover them with Band-Aids.
If you had your surgery with Dr. Ciaravino, do not forget about the Scarfade gel you received in your pre-op bag! Your incisions will greatly approve over a years’ time! Have fun in the sun!
Do you currently have breast implants and were thinking about exchanging them for a fresh new look? One of the most common procedures performed by Dr. Ciaravino is breast implant revisions.
Many patients who have had old silicone implants or saline implants for a while are having breast implant exchange surgery. These patients are exchanging their old implants for new silicone gel. These implants have a more natural look and feel providing patients with outstanding results. Patients have been extremely happy with their new breast implants.
Contrary to popular belief, implant exchange surgery has a simple and quick recovery! Most patients are back to work and everyday life within 4-5days. Limitations include no workouts for two weeks. At 3 weeks you will be at 50% physical activity and by week 4 you will be back to normal activities. You can have beautiful perky breasts with a fresh new look just in time for summer!
SUMMER is quickly approaching and if you are thinking about breast augmentation don’t let a long recovery prevent you from obtaining beautiful breasts.
Through Dr. Ciaravino’s delicate surgical technique, you endure little to no bleeding during surgery. You will NOT go home with any wraps or drains! You simply go home in a really cute CIARAVINO sport bra in which you will wear for only two weeks! It is remarkable how well patients feel even the day after surgery. Most patients are back to work or school within three or four days.
Our patients time and time again are so thankful for the simple and fast recovery after breast augmentation. So why wait? You can be swimsuit ready in no time!
If you have had breast augmentation, you’ll want to do all you can to keep your breasts looking perky and wonderful. Here are some tips to keep your breasts in the best shape….
- Massage your breasts for the first few months after surgery. This is important for preventing scar tissue formation (capsular contracture) and helps your implants settle in.
- While in the sun this summer make sure that you keep your incision site well covered. This could make your scar darker or more visible if it is exposed to too much sun. (this means tanning beds as well)
- Minimize direct chest workouts –If you breast implants are under the muscle, direct chest workouts could potentially push the implant down and out therefore we recommend that you limit pushups, bench pressing and other chest related exercises. You are free to do all arm work outs.
- ALWAYS WEAR GOOD SUPPORT! Breasts with or without implants are trying to defy gravity. We recommend that you always wear a good supportive bra while out n’ about, working out, and even when you sleep. Underwire bras are excellent for the most support throughout the day! A camisole top or a comfortable sports bra is recommended for night time support.
Patients who are considering breast augmentation commonly want to know if the breast implants will be placed above or below the muscle. This question is controversial among patients and plastic surgeons alike. Since there is a lot of variation in patients anatomy, individual goals, and surgical techniques, there is really no one best approach. Some patients will do best with implants placed below the muscle. Others, will do better with them above the muscle.
There are several factors that come into play when choosing to go above(sub-gland) or below(sub-pec) the muscle. These include your particular muscle anatomy, position of your breast tissue in relation to where the muscle sits on your chest, or even your lifestyle. In your consultation you will be provided with more specific details about your anatomy and together you and Dr. Ciaravino would make the best decision for you!
How do you know what size implant is right for your body? Do you have friends trying to tell you what size breast implants you should get? How do you know what size is going to achieve your breast augmentation goals?
These questions seem to be the most worrisome on patients’ minds when they come in for breast augmentation consultation. There are several different factors that come into play when choosing the perfect size for you.
Two main elements of your anatomy that directly affect your implant selection are 1) how much breast tissue you currently have and 2) the shape/structure of your chest.
It is best for you alone to not choose your implant size, but have a discussion with your doctor about what size is going to be best for your anatomy. Everyone’s anatomy is different therefore if you are going through before and after photos of different patients, try to find someone who has a similar amount of breast tissue as you and similar breast/chest shape. Here are a few questions to ask yourself: How much breast tissue am I starting with? How wide is my sternal bone? How strong is the natural fold of my breast? How elastic is my skin? All of these issues should be taken into consideration when choosing the ideal implant to give the best outcome with the least risk for complications.

As women we take a number of different preventative measures to fight against age. From a strict work-out regiment, numerous anti-aging products, to healthy eating…women are obsessed with staying young and beautiful. Have you thought about your breasts aging? Are you worried about sagging breast or maybe currently have some drupe to your breast? Several factors affect the aging of our breast:
-Genetics-Everyone’s anatomy is different. Some women biologically will experience more ptosis(droop) than others
-Age-Breast naturally sag as we age
-Pregnancy- (including breast feeding) Breast tissue consistency and shape changes variably with pregnancy.
-Lifestyle- workout routines, weight gain and weight loss
So… what can we do to prevent breast sag? The best thing you can do is to wear a bra that fits you well with excellent support! All breasts, small, medium or large, should ALWAYS be well supported even if you currently have implants. Finding the right bra for your breasts will help prevent breast sag. Also, closely monitoring your weight gain or weight loss pre or post-pregnancy will help prevent sagging. Rapid weight gain or loss can affect your breast tissue consistency and they will not have enough time to adjust to your body’s weight fluctuation.
If you feel like you may already have sagging breast and may be a candidate for a lift read all about Mastopexy.

There are numerous women that engage in a variety of fitness activities or body building competitions that are seeing breast augmentation. With the decrease in body mass and body fat, one of the down sides to a high fitness routine is the loss of breast tissue. Many of these highly trained athletes are seeking to have a girlish figure while still remaining lean. Breast augmentation is a great way to restore fullness and figure while still remaining lean and fit!
Here are a few questions our fitness guru patients ask most commonly:
1. Is the implant better placed above or below the muscle? This really depends on your anatomy. Some patients benefit from the implant being placed in a sub-pectoral position and others a sub-glandular position.
2. Is silicone or saline better for me since I work out so much? Both are excellent implants ,it really depends on how much breast tissue you have. We precaution our patients that are very lean about the rippling that can occur in the saline implant. The silicone gel does great in both subpec or sub-gland position.
3. Will I be able to do the same exercises that I use to? We suggest that in order for you to maintain the best results you limit your direct chest work outs like bench press or flys.
4. How long until I will be able to go back to the gym after surgery? The first two weeks after surgery are your most substantial in recovery. At three weeks you are at 50%; light lifting, working out legs, brisk walking. At four weeks most patients are good to go!
5. Can I still run with implants? Yes you can still run after your recovery period, it may feel a little different, but with good support you should be good to go!

What stops a lot people from achieving their dream of beautiful breast is the fear of limitations after surgery and the length of time it takes to recover. Everyone has a lot going on in their lives from outings with friends to school, weddings, family functions, or everyday duties with children.
Dr.Ciaravino has developed a surgical technique that allows our patients to get back to their everyday lives as quickly as possible with beautiful new breasts! For a standard breast augmentation with saline or silicone gel implants, limitations include no working-out for the first two weeks after surgery. At the three week mark you will be at 50% where you can begin doing leg work-outs and brisk walking. At four weeks our patients are good to go back to their everyday activities!
A lot of people want to know “well, When Can I go back to work?” This question varies from patient to patient depending on their career. For the majority of our patents, they have their surgery on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, take the weekend off to recover and then they are usually back to work by the following Monday or Tuesday! “WOW”… you say … “How is that possible?” Through Dr. Ciaravino’s surgical technique there is very little trauma to the breast tissue along with a combination of post-operative instructions that allow for a speedy recovery! So don’t let more time go by! You can have the breasts you have always wanted in no time!
